Is it composition? Lighting? Subject matter? Point of focus? Use of color? Leading lines? Retouching? Special effects? Some of these things? ALL of them?
It’s been said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” While that may be true, I find there are often characteristics that great photos share—and I’ll be sharing these points in a show and tell workshop in my studio.
I have been shooting film, video, and digital photos professionally for over 30 years. During that time, I have been fortunate to have been awarded several times by my peers for my lighting and shooting skills. But better than awards, I have been rewarded by clients that keep coming back for more… some for over 25 years!
An age old question ponders whether a “good eye” is born or can be taught? I don’t know, but I have learned from my mistakes through the years and know I can shorten your learning curve by sharing what I think “works” and what doesn’t.
I know, I know, everyone hates a critic, but hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t ask me to critique and evaluate his or her photos. My only aim is to offer constructive criticism accompanied by reasons for my opinions. To see my bio and client list, click here.

Classes are held in Andy's studio in Farmington Hills, MI. Class size is kept small – about 15 people – to maximize your learning. First come, first served. To enroll, please fill out the form on the Classes Page and mail a check for $50 made out to Greenwell Photography Inc. Or, if you choose not to pre-register, admission is $60 at the door.
